A study on how to study

We have an exciting topic to talk about in this post…studying! We know, we can hear that collective groan. But really studying can be fun if it’s done in an organized manner. This week, we’re combining two of our favorite tools, infographics and studying.
An infographic, is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data, or as the Oxford Dictionary simplifies it: “A good infographic is worth a thousand words.”
Basically, all you need for studying is a visual image to help you breakdown the information in an easier manner. Check out the studying infographic for some basic studying tips. And don’t worry, we’re not finished, we’ll be back after the infographic with our thoughts.

See how clear it was to learn new material from a visual aid? You now know that an important step to studying, is highlighting your notes or using flashcards. This will help you clearly see the important keywords and focus topics. If you use different color highlighters you can categorize the study material into different topics (terms, definitions, examples). Flashcards are a fun way to draw pictures of the terms you’re studying and to test yourself.
Our Regents Boosters card sets use this method to help you learn the information. Our introduction cards explain how are cards can help you study.

Another very important study tool is time management. Before you start studying quickly glance at the material and try to estimate how long it will take you to study. Give yourself some extra time for disturbances and hard topics. Then make sure you schedule this time in over a few days. Try not to cram the night before! It’s also important to schedule in 10 minute breaks, to snack or chill, for every 30-50 minute study time. The key to efficient studying is reviewing notes a little bit every day. Then when test time comes the material it is not new material that you never heard of.
A crucial step in efficient studying is keeping you brain entertained. Listening to music is a fun way to keep yourself from getting bored. But according to studies it doesn’t help you recall the information. Maybe save the music for your 10 minute breaks!

Study Smart, Study Less!
